George Kambosos eyeing Devin Haney undisputed post-fight Teofimo fight Boxing News 24

Via Sean Jones: George Kambosos Jr. outlined an undisputed clash with WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney if he wins the IBF/WBA/WBC Franchise/WBO 135-lb Teofimo Lopez title this Saturday night. Teofimo vs. battle card. Kambosos will be displayed live on DAZN.

This is Teofimo’s first defense of the WBA, WBC Franchise & WBO 135-lb title he won over a year ago against Vasily Lomachenko on October 17. Teofimo has the option to take on Lomachenko in a single match. rematch for big money, but chose to defend against his IBF mandatory challenger Kambosos.

Teo’s reason for fighting Kambosos was that he wanted to keep his IBF title as he would be stripped due to the mandatory defense.

Interestingly, Teofimo was supposed to be vacating his four lightweight titles after defending him against the Kambosos, which makes it pointless for him to enter this fight.

If Teofimo can make more money fighting Lomachenko in a rematch or by playing Gervonta Davis, it makes more sense to do one of those bouts, even if it means is that he will lose the IBF title.

You could argue that Teofimo may have lacked the confidence to pull off riskier fights with Tank or Lomachenko, so he opted for a sure-fire payday ahead of Kambosos.

Australian Kambosos believes a fight between him and undefeated 135 lb WBC belt holder Haney (26-0.15 KOs) could draw up to 90,000 fans in a single Australian stadium match.

Aside from the tough task of having the weaker Kambosos, the slower puncher, deliver a massive attack against the 24-year-old younger Teofimo, it’s hard to imagine a fight featuring Haney attracting 90,000 fans.

Haney is still not a big name in the US, and it’s likely he’s even less known in the Kambosos’ home Australia. You would think that the Kambosos would need a more popular star like Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis to attract a large number of players in Australia.

It’s not that 22-year-old Haney isn’t a great fighter, but he’s just getting started and he hasn’t beaten anyone other than the older men, 35-year-old Jorge Linares, 40-year-old Yuriorkis Gamboa , and a bunch of little-known fighters.

Although Kambosos (19-0, 10 KOs) is a clear underdog for his title challenge against the undefeated Teofimo (16-0, 12 KOs), he believes he will come out on top tonight. Saturday when the two fought at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“Me and Haney also talked. We talked, we had mutual respect and I was in his corner to win his fight, I hope he wins his fight,” Kambosos told Sun.

Devin Haney Teofimo Lopez

“We will handle the job and start it. Whatever the world thinks he and Lopez have in common, it just isn’t true. What makes more sense? And I know Eddie [Hearn] love them big stadium games, so that makes perfect sense. ”

Kambosos has a chance of defeating Teofimo if the New Yorker suffers a massive drop in weight and if his reported injury is severe enough that he can’t fight at a high level.

“There is a better fight and a bigger fight in a stadium in Australia with 80,000 or 90,000 people. We all know Lopez is not a big salesman, whatever he thinks he is,” said Kambosos, 28.

If things fall apart for Teofimo as he suffers from weight loss and his injury slows him down, the Kambosos could win on Saturday. Also, this is a terrible mismatch with Teofimo likely going to slaughter the Kambosos.
