Here’s what attendees of Friday’s press conference had to say from downtown Los Angeles:

SEBASTIAN FUNDORA

“My style depends only on the fight. If he gives me a chance to show off his skills and show he can survive there, then I’ll do it. But if I can get it over with quickly, then I’ll do what I’ve always done.

“If he’s willing to fight inside or try to take me down, it’s going to be like my recent fights have been. If he wants to box me, we’ll definitely be ready for that.

“I do what I did in training camp in a battle. I’m not worried about what Garcia will do. I don’t care what style he brings. We were prepared to be the best Sebastian Fundora we could be.

“We want belts. Whoever wins the Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano rematch, I want them in the ring. Those are the guys to beat and I want to prove myself against them.

“I have improved with age and as I continue to mature. With each fight, we get something new based on how the opponent attacks me. That has made me better every time I step into the ring.

“I just listened to everything my father said. It’s the respect and teamwork that we have for each other. If he wants me to keep my distance from this guy, I will. But if he wants me to beat him, I’m ready to go.

“I can assure the fans that you will get what you deserve on Sunday. I promise this will be the battle of the night. ”

SERGIO GARCIA

“It is an honor for me to debut in the US on SHOWTIME PPV. I don’t feel any pressure at all. Fundora is an exceptional fighter for this division. He’s unusual to prepare for. But I’ve played against tall opponents like him. I feel up for any challenge he might throw my way on Sunday night.

“I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to do in the ring. Sunday night, I can show you what I can do beyond words. My job was to show the world what I was capable of and prevent the things Fundora was used to from happening. Fundora will come with his hunger, ambition and drive, and I will do the same.

“I came here to win the war and I came here to win hearts. It’s going to be a great fight because I’m not here to run. I’m here to support Fundora. I respect my opponent. I respect anyone who gets in the ring with me. I will put my pride and skills first and show everyone what I am capable of.

“I have clashed with tall guys like Fundora but those guys are really heavier than Fundora. I consider that an advantage. That’s what made me tougher. Something made me stronger. It will come in handy when I step into the ring on Sunday night.

“I absolutely love this challenge. I’m in someone else’s house. I have no pressure. All I want to do is give the fans a great show and enjoy every moment. Hopefully there will be a happy ending, but I plan to enjoy every second that I have on Sunday night.

“Spanish boxing is definitely on the rise. But I fight for my family. I want to make them proud. I want to make my corner proud. Those are the people who mean the most to me and for whom I fight for this war. To my fans in Spain and to my two young children, my wife and my family”.

SERGIY DEREVYANCHENKO

“I have a lot of motivation for this fight. That and my strength will help me. Winning this fight will keep my career going and get me where I want to be again.

“I feel strong and excited to face Adames. He’s a good fighter, hitting hard. But I’m ready for anything he brings. I fought the best middleweights in the world. I’ve faced powerful punchers before, so I’m not worried about his strength.

“I studied Adames and looked at some of his past matches. He is a very strong warrior. I know him and we worked in training camp for what he does. I know what I have to do on Sunday night and I’ll show everyone in the game.

“Of course I need to win this war. This fight is the next step towards becoming world champion. I want to win this fight, face Jaime Munguia and then fight for the title again. My dream is to win the belt and that’s what I’m aiming for.”

CARLOS ADAMES

“Every war has something big going on. Every war has risks. If not, why are you fighting? I am always looking for the biggest challenges. I want to fight the best fighters, and Sergiy is definitely one of them. I’m aware everything is at stake, but I’m not running away from it. I’m excited for what’s coming on Sunday night.

“I understand that he fought against great boxers. In the end, he’s fighting against Carlos Adames, and I’m a big puncher. Don’t underestimate me. Otherwise, he will be in big trouble. I consider myself a great fighter just like him.

“People didn’t think I would be this great at 147 pounds. I showed them. Then I got to 154, and they didn’t think I was going to be a great fighter, but I showed them there. I’m 160 now and I’m going to show them once again how strong I can be and how much of a threat I can face. Sergiy is a good fighter, but he is not an obstacle for me. I don’t consider him an insurmountable mountain.

“Sparring is not a fight. He can fight Superman. I do not care. I will be ready for him. He will realize how strong I am. He can fight whoever he wants, but Carlos Adames is a whole other thing.”

EDUARDO RAMIREZ

“In the end, whether the victory comes by knockout or decisive, it doesn’t really matter to me. The most important thing is my work in the gym day in and day out to show this fight in the ring. I just wanted to give the fans a great show.

“I am a guy who lives in the present, not the past. The list of fighters he’s faced is impressive, but that doesn’t matter given what he’s done in the past. It’s about what happens on Sunday night.

“Ultimately, for me, I hope to get the flag of Mexico up on Sunday night. I want to make people proud of my country and show my fans what I’m capable of.

“In terms of my chances of winning the world championship, we are hoping that a win will give me a knockout shot or maybe even a world title fight. But in the end, I had to go step by step. I cannot look past this match, otherwise my ambitions will not come true. ”

MIGUEL MARRIAGA

“Every fight is important, but in this case, this one has the potential to earn itself another world title. It do or die because it was a big fight on Sunday night.

“I have fought big opponents, and Ramirez is not unbeatable. He’s not someone I care too much about. I have to focus, I have to be aware and not to underestimate anyone. Ultimately, it’s about what I do inside the ring.

“Everybody knows I came to Los Angeles ready to fight. I am facing a quality opponent, but the most important thing is to believe in my preparation and go for the match, not wait for the fight to come to me.

“I had great preparation for this fight. Nice to open pay-per-view. Now is the time to go out there and win.”

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotion

“We have a great card on Sunday night. Mayweather Promotions has promoted some of the biggest fights in the sport’s history and I can honestly say the card under this phenomenon is probably in the top three I’ve ever promoted.

“From top to bottom, this card stands out. In the co-main event we have Sebastian Fundora, who is an interesting boxer and one of my favorite sports today. He will be going into an all-out fight against Sergio Garcia. These people will give all they have.

“We all know Sergiy Derevyanchenko and have seen him in difficult games before and have made questionable decisions. He will be looking to capitalize on that experience on Sunday as he faces tough and fraught Adames, which is shaping up to be an interesting matchup.

“In the opening match, we will see top featherweight contender Eduardo Ramirez take on a world title challenger in Miguel Marriaga. I can’t wait for the whole show. These are the matches you don’t want to miss.”
