Ghostwire: Tokyo’s expansive game demo breaks down its dazzling exploration and combat
Today, Tango Gameworks provided the first extended look at Ghostwire: Tokyo’s moment-to-moment gameplay and other activities players can engage in throughout haunted Tokyo. A pair of videos provide a walkthrough of the game’s action, while an interview with the developer reveals the team’s design process.
We already know that the game’s story is set after the population of Tokyo disappears thanks to the appearance of dangerous Yokai, or spirits. You play as a lone survivor, Akito, who is awakened by a spirit named KK who has given you elemental powers. This power is called Ethereal Weaving and allows you to channel the elements of fire, wind, and water. Performing these moves is like a mixture of Doctor Strange’s spelling and Avatar: The Last Airbendercurved thanks to its flashy, intricate hand gestures. Physical weapons complement your spells like bows and various spells, and you can stealthily attack enemies instead of shooting them directly.
Among other features, the first video shows off Akito’s tango abilities, allowing him to fire a nerve to grapple and walk up buildings. We also looked at damaged, fog-covered areas that players had to clear up, and surreal shape-shifting areas that evoked the horror mentality in Tango Gamework’s previous series, The Evil. Within.
You can also watch Shinji Mikami and the Tango Gameworks team discuss the creation of Ghostwire (including the meaning behind the name Ghostwire), influence, and whether or not the designers believed in ghosts in an interview with the creator. develop below.
