Great game Quick completion 2023 Raise $2.6 million for cancer research
Great Game Done Quickly (AGDQ) kicked off the New Year successfully, raising over $2.6 million for the Cancer Prevention Fund. For those unfamiliar, GDQ is a 24-hour charity live stream where dedicated gamers show off the speed of their favorite games. Prior to 2020, most events were held live, but since then, they’ve mostly been broadcast from the homes of live streamers. This year’s event runs from January 8 to 15 and includes over 140 runs.
While most runners don’t expect to set new records in the marathon, a whopping four records have been set this year for the following games: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, PowerWash Simulator, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Steven Seagal Is: The Final Optional (Prototype). Most years have one or two records set, but four records is a big deal.
2023 marks the 14th year the charity marathon is held twice a year. They have two main events in winter and summer, but they also host smaller events throughout the year. One of them is Frost Fatales, the women’s sprint event, which will run from February 26 – March 4, 2023 on Twitch. Since its founding in 2010, the organization has raised more than $43 million for charity.
AGDQ was initially set up directly but was moved online due to concerns about COVID. Their summer event, Summer Games Done Quick, will be held from May 28 to June 4, though it’s unclear if the event will take place in person.
