Before the third season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation The Witcher arrive confirmation of the fourth season, but with a big twist: Actor Henry Cavill will step aside as Geralt of Rivia. He will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Independence Day: Rise).
On their respective Instagram profiles, Cavill and Hemsworth discussed a major Witcher rewrite of the series.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventure, and alas, I’ll lay down my medals and swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement. “Instead, the great man Liam Hemsworth will take on the White Wolf mantle. As with the greatest literary figures, I hand the torch with reverence for the time it took to portray Geralt and the enthusiasm to see Liam take on this man’s most intriguing and nuanced role. Liam, sir, this character has a great depth to him, enjoy diving in and see what you can find. “
“As a Witcher fan, I’m on the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” Hemsworth said. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I am honored that he gave me the reins and allowed me to wield the blades of the White Wolf for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I have been a fan of yours for many years and am inspired by what you have brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m really excited to be stepping into the world of The Witcher. “
Cavill announced earlier this week that, as confirmed by all appeared as a guest in Black AdamHell Return to the role of Superman in DC’s cinematic universe. Cavill told Polygon in an interview in 2019. “And having played the game for many, many hours, that’s something I have a connection with. And so it was just bringing a version of me, Geralt’s version, into Lauren’s show. “
