Honda Prelude EV successor to launch in 2028 – report

It’s been more than two decades since Honda’s motobike cease Prelude two-door coupe, but for now, the Japanese automaker is said to be preparing to return it to an all-electric form.

A rumor from the Japanese publication BestCarWeb Honda has indicated that Honda will launch a successor to the Prelude in 2028 and that it will be an electric vehicle (EV).

This Prelude successor is said to be built on the new EV platform and has a “futuristic design”.

At this stage, it is still unclear how much power and torque it will produce, as well as its speed.

Honda previously teased this Prelude successor along with what was interpreted as a NSX successor at the EV roadmap showcase in April this year.

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe said during the event that the company is “currently looking into the introduction of two sports cars” and called them a “special” and “top-of-the-line” model.

BestCarWeb reports that the Prelude successor is the special model and the NSX successor is the flagship model.

This flagship NSX successor model has long been rumored to be an EV, like suggested by Acura vice president and brand manager Jon Ikeda last August.

Honda is currently looking for use only electricity and fuel cells by 2040 and plans to deliver 30 electric vehicle models globally by 2030.

The Honda’s Prologue The SUV, as well as an Acura-branded full-size SUV, will debut in North America in 2024. Both models are being co-developed with General Motors.

Honda will introduce a total of 10 new EV models by 2027 to the Chinese market, as previewed e: N concepts.

In its home market of Japan, Honda will introduce a “commercial mini electric vehicle” in early 2024 for urban areas.

Honda also plans to introduce “Affordable EVs with the cost and range of gasoline-powered vehicles,” through an alliance with GM, starting in North America in 2027.

By 2030, the Japanese automaker plans to produce more than two million EVs globally each year.

THAN: Honda will only sell electric and fuel cell cars by 2040
