The formal halls are decorated in our homes, and for me, nothing sets the stage quite like a front door. holiday time. And this year’s look is possibly my favorite ever. Again, I’m partnering with Elle Worsham, owner of Gratitude wreath, to create a look that includes lush greenery and gorgeous wreaths from last year but with some special additions that made the 2021 version all its own. 1. Start with a vision.
Before you start hanging your home decor, you’ll want to determine how you want to design it feel. What vibe are you looking for? Worsham always comes up with names for his designs, writing down a few descriptive words to capture the essence of the design. Pinterest and Instagram are always great places to find inspiration for Christmas ideas on your doorstep. Creating a board for your front door is a great place to start.
2. Get personal.
Since no home is the same, make sure the design is right for you your front door. Take a picture of your door with your phone and use the markup feature on iPhotos to sketch out a rough design. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but it will help bring your vision to life. After the design is sketched, take all the necessary measurements of the door and entrance.
3. The decorator source has the correct size.
Now that you have your design and measurements, you can order the exact size wreath, garland, and any other decorative elements you’d like. This step saves you major problem-solving time when starting to build your design because you know exactly how everything will fit.
4. Choose high-quality, long-lasting wreaths.
Buying high-quality, custom-made wreaths is one way to ensure you’re getting the most out of your décor. Wreaths ordered from big box stores can take weeks or months before they are shipped. Better greens like Fraser fir and other evergreen firsts will do best outdoors. Worsham also notes that a wreath with a variety of greenery is likely to last longer because the sun affects different types of foliage in different ways. Of course, all greenery will eventually wither and wither, but its ephemeral nature (and beautiful fragrance) is part of the beauty of a fresh wreath.
5. Consider mechanics.
When you’re ready to decorate, it’s important to consider what might actually happen to your installation. For example, my front door had an upper window, so Worsham used four large suction cups to tie the rope and anchor the wreath above the door. Then, she attached the wreath to the lanterns on both sides with blue flower wire. Some tools to have on hand include suction cup, 20-22 gauge green flowers, sharp garden shears, command hook, One hammer, sturdy ladder and tow.
6. Double for a fuller look.
When you put the wreath on, you will get a more dramatic, fuller look. Worsham used the same main garland as last year, but using two strands instead of one really made all the difference to the design. This rule also applies to other decorative items when you are working with windows. Since my front door is glass, she used a double sided wreath that looks good inside and out.
7. Use Winterberry for pops of color.
Winterberry will give your door beautiful hints of red and the whole design has a festive feel, and it’s the colorful splash that makes this year’s look completely different. separate. Get creative with this step! Work wherever you see fit and see how it brings in an organic, creative element.
8. Give your greenery some love.

Worsham’s number one tip when it comes to Christmas door decorations is that there are no real rules. Just get out there and play around. We are all creators and nothing is more satisfying than bringing your own vision to life. You might be surprised at how capable you are of creating stunning designs with natural elements.
