It’s good that Hamilton can hit the top now
Max Verstappen responds to Lewis Hamilton’s digs into not being a sensible racer by saying that it can be assured that even a 37-year-old can learn to corner properly.
Hamilton fought a clean fight with Charles Leclerc at the British Grand Prix and praised the Ferrari driver as “reasonable”, saying it is not the situation he faces against Verstappen in 2021.
At one point in his Leclerc battle, the Ferrari driver edged out Hamilton’s outer ring at Copse cleanly.
Last year Hamilton had the innermost lane in the corner when he controversially collided with Verstappen, knocking the Red Bull driver out of the race and sending him to the hospital for a precautionary check-up. When informed of the comments, Verstappen couldn’t resist digging in on his own, pointing out that the FIA thinks Hamilton was primarily the cause of that incident.
Verstappen told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: “I think it’s great that when you’re 37, at some point you understand how to reach the top.
“He learns, so that’s positive for young drivers: when you’re 37, you’re always learning!
“Of course, you can clearly see that in the pictures. Charles gave him less space than me last year, that’s enough. Plus, he got a fine last year, so so you shouldn’t talk about it.”
Verstappen is currently leading the championship in his first title defense.
