It’s on! Errol Spence Jr v Terence Crawford, July 29, Las Vegas
It is official. Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr will fight Terence “Bud” Crawford.
The two undefeated welterweight superstars will finally take down on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Spence 28-0 (22) and Crawford 39-0 (30) both used social media to announce the Top Boxing Champion’s summer bout.
“Finally giving the fans what they want! “It’s an upside down battle on paper but it could be a one-sided battle, one of the biggest of the century,” Spence said.
Meanwhile, Crawford posted a video that read: “The wait is over. Recess. Errol Spence-Terence Crawford, July 29, Las Vegas, Nevada. Everyone go out, support and watch me fry this fish.”
The seafood reference, for the uninitiated, is aimed at Spence, who recently posted a photo on Instagram called ‘Strap Season’. The image shows a half-shark cartoon character, wearing Spence’s shorts, holding a scythe in one hand and knocking on Crawford’s door in the other.
Animation aside Spence v Crawford will end a spectacular week for the sport. Four days before that, Stephen Fulton would travel to Japan to take down ‘The Beast’ Naoya Inoue in their spectacular super bantamweight bout. At the very least, these two fights ended a wildly successful year for boxing inside the ring.
No other details have been revealed but ESPN reported yesterday that a rematch clause will apply to whoever loses on July 29. From there, they will have 30 days to confirm. The second battle will then take place at the end of 2023.
