Janibek Alimkhanuly defends against Denzel Bentley on November 12

Via Craig Page: WBO middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly will defend the title for the first time against middleweight rival Denzel Bentley on November 12 in Las Vegas.

Janibek (12-0.8 KOs) has an easy defense against Bentley (17-1-1, 14 KOs) after being elevated to 160-lb WBO champion by previous champion Demetrius’ Under Boo’ Andrade chose not to face him.

Sure, Bentley was an utterly disappointing first choice for 29-year-old Janibek, who rose to the Top Rank undefeated, but this was probably the only guy they could find willing to challenge someone to a duel. Kazakhstan to contest his WBO belt.

Nampaw Janibek is too talented for his own good, so he’s stuck defending against Bentley rather than getting fatter matches against WBC champion Jermall Charlo or IBF/WBA champion Gennadiy Golovkin .

Bentley was wiped out by Felix Cash by a third-round knockout last April. Since that loss, Bentley has won its last three, beating Marcus Morrison, Linus Udofia and Sam Evans. Bentley was just enough to knock out Udofia, winning the 12th round decision last May. To say Bentley was lucky to have won is to put it lightly.

Bentley, 27, has almost no chance of beating a talent like Janibek. If he can’t play with Felix Cash, he will no longer be able to fight Janibek.

Top Rated promoter Bob Arum really appreciates Janibek, considering him another great talent in the Golovkin framework. The reality, however, is that Janibek will have a hard time getting the bigger names in the 160 lb class up against him.

Unless Arum wants to go the Golovkin route by letting Janibek fight five to six times a year, he won’t be the star he hopes to be. As such, Janibek will be avoided like Demetrius ‘Bad’ Andrade and Golovkin.

Andrade has been stuck playing against European opponents for the past three years since he won the WBO belt. He ultimately chose to vacate when he was faced with having to defend against Janibek, which would be an uphill fight.

In order for Janibek to get into big fights against the likes of Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez, he’ll need to drop his 160-lb WBO belt and move up to 168 because the middleweight class is dead. The only talented boxers in the division other than Janibek were Golovkin and Charlo, and neither of them wanted to confront him.
