Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is shunned by champions for a reason Cody Crowley says
Via Adam Baskin: Cody Crowley says welterweight champions are avoiding undefeated No. 1 IBF contender Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis for a reason.
Current champions at 147, Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford, are going well, fighting easily against an easily defeated opponent and making millions.
Why would Crawford & Spence want to spoil what they’re achieving by going up against a young cat like Boots Ennis (29-0.27 KOs) and being sent back to the salt mines, earning less as a guinea pig. way is the opponent after being 26-year-old dethroned.
They know he’s a big deal and won’t fight him for “a few million dollars,” Crowley told Thaboxingvoice.
“There’s a reason why world champions won’t fight him, right? But then they go and try to throw him to other people and give them coins to fight him,” Cody Crowley told. thaboxingvoice about Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
“Meanwhile, the world champions won’t be fighting him for a few million dollars. You had [Keith] Thurman, who said he wanted ten million dollars to get in the ring with him,” Crowley continued about Jaron Ennis.
“I was just talking about what I saw,” Cody said when asked how he knew champions were avoiding Boots Ennis. “There are other outlets that are sharing the news.”
Boots Ennis is facing Karen Chukhadzhian (21-1, 11 KOs) in a 12-round bout next Saturday, January 7, for an interim IBF welterweight title to try to tie up the League champion. Spence International Boxing must fight.
It’s not enough that Boots Ennis has been made mandatory by the IBF. Now, he has to fight for the interim IBF title to try to put more pressure on Spence to protect him.
If this were the old days, a champion could have defended Boots Ennis without him having to fight for the interim title. It is enough for him to be respected and considered as the No. 1 contender in the 1147 lb weight class.
Many boxing fans believe Spence, 32, will move up to 154 this year after he took on a light opponent in April and completely avoided Boots Ennis.
Crawford shows no interest in mixing it with Ennis, and he’ll likely advance to 154 without a face. You could argue that Crawford’s situation is even more desperate because he’s aging, about to turn 36, and only fights once a year against the weak opposition.
