“As soon as we got out of the gate, we were an instant hit,” he told the crowd before reading several of his post-launch reviews, including one calling it “the show.” Deadly conversation when it comes to an uncharacteristic host.” and another said it was “the sort of mess created by a sick baby with a punctured diaper.”

“And those are the good reviews!” Kimmel joked. “Why these people at ABC hired me, I still don’t know.” Calling out some of the people who believed in him early on, he added, “You should all be fired for this. And, in fact, two of you got fired for it. But thank you.”

He then said that “very few people expected us to get this far” and that there were “two reasons” why they did. “First, I made a very good deal with the devil, my soul is about to be roasted,” he joked. But the real reason, he explained, was all the “great people” on his staff, whom he took a few minutes to thank a lot.

“It takes a lot of people to do this silly thing,” Kimmel said. “And we’ve covered a lot of silly stuff over the last 20 years.” But how much they focused on Snooki and Sarah Palin, he pointed out, is also “allowed to use the platform to speak out about issues that are important to me, like healthcare.” and reasonable gun laws”.

“So in summary, I want to say to those of you who have been with us since the beginning — and those who have been involved along the way — thank you for your patience,” he said. he concluded. “I don’t know what I did to deserve it, but I appreciate it. I don’t take this for granted. And I promise that as long as I’m here, you’ll never have to see Matt Damon’s stupid face on this show.”

Then, thanks to the advent of non-existent technology in 2003, Kimmel updated the 35-year-old version of herself on everything that had happened over the years.
