Joshua Buatsi vs Jean Pascal on IBF’s orders for a 175-title eliminator

Via Charles Brun: Joshua Buatsi and Jean Pascal were asked by the IBF to fight in a light heavyweight fight.

This won’t make Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing happy as he was hoping to be able to negotiate a bout between #2 WBA Buatsi (16-0, 13 KOs) and 175-lb WBA champion Dmitry Bivol on October in London.

It’s unclear why Hearn is nervous about throwing the 2016 Olympic Buatsi against Bivol given the way he performed in his recent 12-round unanimous decision win over Craig Richards on May 21; he’s not ready to go up against a talent like Bivol or 175-lb IBF/WBC/WBO champion Artur Beterbiev.

Hearn must do something with Buatsi before his current contract with Matchroom expires as he cannot progress as a boxer despite coming out of the Olympics with high hopes.

You have to imagine that Hearn might be thinking of dumping Buatsi if he fails to produce by 2022, possibly against Pascal or Bivol.

The World Boxing Association Seems To Broke Hearn’s Plans By Ordering Bivol Against #1 WBA Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez next.

Former WBA/WBC Heavyweight Champion Pascal (36-6-1, 20 KOs) has revived his career, winning his last three fights since losing to 175-lb WBA champion Bivol in November 2018. 2018.

In the last three matches of Pascal, 39, he defeated Fanlong Meng, Badou Jack and Marcus Brown to maintain his 17-year professional career.

You could argue Pascal vs Buatsi is a 50-50 relationship because the toughness factor Jean brings might be too much for Joshua.

Although the 29-year-old Buatsi is 10 years younger than the 39-year-old Pascal, he doesn’t seem to have the same courage and spirit that the Canadian boxer possesses.

Some fighters are naturally cut for war, and Pascal is cut from a different fabric than Buatsi, who often seems reluctant to mix it together.

“The IBF on Friday ordered the removal of the light heavyweight belt Joshua Buatsi-Jean Pascal, Pascal’s mentor, Greg Leon, told ESPN. Eddie Hearn recently said he asked Buatsi, ESPN’s 175-pound seventh-place runner, to take on Dmitry Bivol. Bivol, however, could be heading for a mandatory title defense against Zurdo Ramirez. “I look forward to the fight going on with Eddie Hearn, he has been informed of our interest,” Leon said. Pascal, a former champion, defeated Fanlong Meng in May,” said Mike Coppinger about ESPN.
