The US Justice Department on Sunday said it would review law enforcement’s response to a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that killed 19 children and two teachers, amid a day even more angry about why the police did not confront the gunman quickly.

Uvalde law enforcement agencies allowed the shooter to remain in a classroom at Robb Elementary School for nearly an hour while officers waited in the hallways and children inside panicked and called 911 to Supported.

Texas county and state authorities said they were conducting their own investigation. Anthony Coley, a spokesman for the Justice Department, said it would conduct a “Serious Incident Review” of law enforcement’s response to the shooting at the request of the mayor of Uvalde.

“The goal of the review was to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and responses that day, and to identify lessons learned and methods,” said Coley. best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooting events.”

“The Department of Justice will release a report with its findings at the conclusion of the review,” Coley added.
