Kashmir editor arrested for “anti-national” online post: Police

Fahad Shah, editor of the portal The Kashmir Walla, has been arrested for sharing “anti-national” content on social media, a police spokesman said.
In a statement, police said Fahad Shah’s social media posts “are similar to glorifying terrorist activities and are intended to instill fear in the public of breaking the law and quiet”.
“During the investigation, a defendant, identified as Fahad Shah, was arrested. The accused is being investigated by the police. An investigation into this matter is underway,” police said.
Mehbooba Mufti, a former J&K executive, condemned the journalist’s arrest.
“Standing up for the truth is seen as anti-national. Mirroring a dictatorial and deeply intolerant government is also anti-national. Fahad’s journalistic work speaks for itself & depicts reality. basic economics that GOI can’t understand. How many Fahadists will you arrest?” tweeted Miss Mufti.
However, police have said that the portal uploaded content with criminal intent.
A number of Facebook users and portals have posted anti-national content including photos, videos and posts with criminal intent to create fear in the community and Uploading may incite the public to disrupt law and order,” police said.
The statement said: “Posting such posts is tantamount to glorifying terrorist activities and damaging the image of law enforcement agencies in addition to being malicious and unkind. feelings for the country”.
