Katie Price: Police consider appeal against sentence on how to avoid jail after drunk driving | UK News
Police are considering an appeal against Katie Price’s sentence after she avoided a Christmas in prison for rolling over in a drunk driving crash while disqualified.
The 43-year-old former glamor model, who has been banned from driving five times, has been 16 weeks suspended prison and another injunction at Crawley Magistrates Court on December 15.
Even though PriceHer driving record was “the worst she’s ever seen,” District Judge Amanda Kelly told the star she couldn’t send her to jail because she complied with court orders.
This includes undergoing rehab treatment at the Priory Center £6,800 a week, and no further offenses.
However, Director James Collis, head of road police for Sussex Police and Surrey Police, said officers were looking into whether the verdict could be appealed.
He said the sentence “as the judge explained it could have been and should have been much worse and in our opinion Price is extremely lucky to not have to spend Christmas behind bars”.
“Given her background and history of driving offenses, she clearly did not consider the risk of her actions to the wider public or the implications for her family,” he added. .
Price said she was “deeply sorry” for her actions and added that she was “sincerely grateful no one was hurt”.
In a statement on her Instagram story, she wrote: “I’m taking time to get better now – mental health is a latent illness and can strike at any time.
“My anxiety triggers and behaviors are something I’m trying to understand, confront, and learn to control moving forward.”
The court said Price was driving to visit a friend nearby in Sussex while under the influence and restraining order when she flipped over her BMW around 6:20 a.m. on September 28.
The court heard a drug wiper tested positive for cocaine, and a roadside breath test performed by Price after the crash came back positive for alcohol.
Tomorrow, The TV personality has admitted to all charges at a hearing at Crawley Magistrates’ Court.
At Wednesday’s sentencing she was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, 12 months of probation, a two-year driving ban, 100 hours of unpaid work, 20 rehabilitation sessions and £213 in costs.
The court heard that Price owed £7,358 for previous offenses.
District Judge Kelly told Price: “The public may be appalled to learn that I cannot put you in jail today.
“But the law says that when a person abides by the terms of their release, you have a legitimate expectation of not going to jail today, even though you deserve to spend Christmas behind bars. .”
