Kia Stinger increased by 200% in April, backlog of many months still
Who said full-size sedans are dead? The Kia Stinger will grow strongly in 2022, up 203.8% in April and up 53.3% so far this year.
Had 316 pcs registered throughout April, accounting for 80.0% of mainstream “Large Passenger” sales, as defined by the industry database VFACTS.
While Stinger’s only segment competitor is Amazing Skoda (79 units, -1.3%), if you combine both the Large and Medium Passenger segments, the Stinger is second only to the best seller Toyota Camry (519 units, -56.6%) in mainstream classes, and ranked third overall Mercedes-Benz C-Class (477 units, +65.1%).
Talk to CarExpertKia Australia’s director of product planning, Roland Rivero, said the company continues to work through the Stinger’s pile of pre-orders, with “still a few months to go”.
Year-to-date (YTD), Stinger is back 943 registrations by April 30 marks an improvement of 53.3% year-on-year in 2021.
It’s the country’s most popular full-size car in both economy and premium classes, with the Superb (258 units, +4.0%) and Porsche Taycan (218 units, -20.1%) came in second and third.
Prices for the big rear-wheel drive upgrade start at $51,250 plus shipping ($55,490 D/A at time of writing) for the entry-level Stinger 200S, though most customers opt for it. The top GT with twin-turbo V6 is currently listed for $64,960 before on-road or $69,890 while driving.
According to Rivero, the Stinger GT is “by far” the best-selling, still accounting for “more than 90% of all vehicles”.
