Kurt Busch misses 3rd NASCAR race in a row with concussion-like symptoms
CHARLOTTE, NC — Kurt Busch will miss his third race in a row with concussion-like symptoms as he sits out Sunday at the Michigan International Freeway.
Busch was injured after a collision during qualifying on July 23 at the Pocono Raceway. Ty Gibbs will replace him in Toyota for 23XI Racing for his third drive at 45.
“I’m continuing to improve every day,” Busch posted on social media. “I know Ty will continue to do an excellent job representing 23XI and the 45th Monster Energy team this weekend in Michigan. I’m working hard to get back to 100% and I hope to be able to get back into the car. at Richmond Raceway. Thank you to everyone for their continued support and I look forward to getting back on track soon.”

Gibbs finished 17th at Pocono and Indianapolis, but Michigan will be his first traditional oval on a Cup car. Busch is exempt to keep his spot in the NASCAR knockout stage if he qualifies. Starting Sunday’s race in Michigan, he has a spot based on his May win at Kansas.
He will lose that position in points based on how other drivers perform while Busch is absent. Four races left to set the playoff playing field.
“We are looking forward to Kurt getting back 100% and on track,” 23XI said in a statement.
