Kylie Jenner was spotted at Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring 2023 couture show in Paris on Wednesday, January 25, wearing a corset that feels so iconic by the nearly 50-year-old fashion house. Posing before the show, she donned a dress with a blue and pink satin top, a delicate front cut, and a long black bottom that fits without feeling tight.
Jenner’s outfit choices seem appropriate, as Gaultier has been responsible for several iconic corsets over the past few decades. MadonnaThe “Like a Virgin” cone bra is arguably the fashion house’s most recognizable design. But also Dita Von Teese2019’s butterfly corset and 1997’s “The Fifth Element” cast coordinated corsets. And that doesn’t even begin to touch on the multitude of skeletal structures presented on the runway bearing the name. him throughout his career.
While Haider Ackermann designs the current couture collection (the fourth couture designer since Gaultier left the brand), Gaultier’s consistent vision is still on display. The collection stays true to all the famous Jean Paul Gaultier house codes, but it feels less whimsical and underrated. Ackermann tackles that changetold Vogue: “I don’t have a sense of humour! I have my gravity, and [Gaultier] there is his generosity and joy – we are two worlds apart. But at the same time, we have a lot in common.”
According to Ackermann, the meeting point was found through tailoring. “People forget how immaculate [Gaultier’s] luckily. His work is magical.” To that end, Ackermann sent colorful crop tops, high-waisted pocket pants, slim black suits and sculpted dresses down the runway. There’s a golden 3D flower growing from the model’s chest, a light purple jogger embellished with silver trim all over, and a maxi pencil skirt covered in feathers.
Aside from the Jean Paul Gaultier show, Jenner has certainly made a splash this High Fashion Week, most recently wearing a fake lion head as part of her Schiaparelli dress. She also wear a conical bra handcrafted in rubber for the Maison Margiela show, designed by Creative Director John Galliano.
