China’s LDV has made a presence in Australia’s huge ute car segment with its diesel-powered T60, providing a rudimentary but ready alternative to a protected used HiLux. operated by a new vehicle.
Now, however, LDV wants to go from a follower to a leader and has beaten all of its competitors when it comes to electricity usage.
No, the dual-cab market will not switch from diesel overnight. But there are plenty of fleet operators who are particularly interested in starting to learn about battery-powered horses.
The company says its targets now are large corporate organisations, all three levels of government and fleet businesses that have committed to the emission reduction targets. Plus a small group of private early adopters.
Right now, it’s possible to switch to a third-party adapter or purchase a factory-supported LDV.

“These Australian businesses know the eT60 won’t pass Nullarbor – but its 330km range is more than enough for their day-to-day requirements.
“But they also know the government’s electric vehicle policy and electric vehicle infrastructure is changing, and they want to stay ahead of the transition. And the LDV eT60, Australia’s first electric ute, is here to help.”

Deep breath…
That’s $92,990 before on-road costs, or almost double the price of diesel engine T60 Max.
That means its price will not meet the threshold allowed by the Albanian government proposed tax exemption of fringe benefits for electric vehicles as it is now, and its price is also above the threshold for various State-based discounts already available.
Additionally, in New Zealand, the LDV eT60 costs $79,990 to drive away, or about AU$74,000, and also qualifies for a $8625 government rebate. Bring what?
Powertrain
There’s a powertrain under the bonnet and, despite plenty of space, there’s no storage space up front.
eT60 is powered by a 130kW and 310Nm rear-wheel-drive permanent-magnet synchronous motor (rear-wheel drive is standard), linked to Electric, Normal and Eco drive settings.
It runs on electricity stored in an 88.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing a claimed WLTP rated maximum driving range of 330km.
According to LDV, an 11kW charge at an AC wall box with a Type 2 port will fill the battery in about 13 hours for a single-phase setup or 9 hours for a three-phase. So overnight between shifts.
An 80kW charge on a DC charger is said to take the eT60 from 20% charged to 80% in about 45 minutes, for continuous recharges.
It has a rated towing capacity of just 1000kg and a listed top speed of 120km/h.

The 330 km range is based on claimed electricity consumption of just under 27 kWh per 100 km.
Dimensions and loads
Measures eT60 5365mm Long, 1809mm high, 1900mm wide with folded mirrors, and sits on a 3155mm The standard long. It has a rotation of 12.6m.
The spec sheet lists the limited weight of 2300kg150kg to 185kg heavier than the T60 diesel series which also comes with 4×4.
LDV claims a decent payload 1000kgbased on a 3300kg GVM.
Bath measures 1129mm wide between the arches, 520mm deep and 1485mm Long. Its widest point is 1510mm.
The suspension layout includes a double wishbone at the front and leaf springs at the rear. It has all-round disc brakes (plus regenerative braking) and electric power steering unlike the diesel’s hydraulics.
Service and Warranty
While the T60 Max diesel is currently covered by a 7-year warranty, for some reason the eT60’s warranty is 5 years or 160,000 km (whichever comes first), with roadside assistance.
However, the battery is covered by a warranty of 8 years/160,000 km.
Long maintenance intervals: every two years or 30,000 km.
Safety
The diesel T60 has a five-star ANCAP rating based on 2017 easier tests, but the eT60 EV is clearly not rated.
No active driver aids like AEB or blind spot monitoring are listed.
