Lithuanian-made Krampus hybrid ATV ready for autonomous battlefield missions
The Lithuanian developers of the Krampus Mk1 off-road vehicle (ATV) are preparing for the big European arms show and joke that their diesel-electric hybrid trolley is ready for anti- “bucket duty” enemies on the battlefield.
“According to Alpine Bavarian folklore, the mythical evil creature Krampus used to punish mischief-makers by collecting them in buckets and eating them. Our Lithuanian-built Krampus Mk1 off-road vehicle can now perform manned missions that are, in part, manned, said Darius Antanaitis, CEO of Vilnius-based Ostara. remotely and automatically against the bad guys on the battlefield”.
The combined diesel-electric engine in silent mode ensures a stealthy approach to the mission area, where crews of both can disembark and automatically return the vehicle to forward firing positions. Krampus Mk1 is designed for a payload of 500 kg, which can include anti-tank weapon systems, killer drones or remotely controlled air defenses. After completing the firefighting mission, the Krampus ATV is designed to return to pick up the crew and resume the manned mission.

The designers of the Krampus Mk1 ATV also envisioned the vehicle’s use in demilitarized areas, such as border protection, law enforcement, environmental control, mining – any situation where the task may require automated or remote operation for long hours or working in a hazardous environment.
The launch of Krampus ATV by Ostara Company is scheduled to take place at the Eurosatory 2022 show in Paris, from June 13 to 17, 2022. The car will be on display at the National Lithuania stands, led by Versli Loiuva, a non-profit agency under the Ministry of Economic Organization. and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Ostara company has reached technology readiness level 6 for the Krampus ATV project. Last year, the team of developers concluded field testing and made the necessary tweaks and upgrades to the vehicle’s systems and subsystems. Earlier this year, technological solutions providing remote and automatic vehicle control were deployed.
Krampus Mk1 has an integrated diesel generator and powerful battery pack, providing a range of 1000 km. In silent mode, when the two electric motors are powered only by the battery pack, the vehicle’s operating range can reach 200 km. The Ostara company says that the Krampus Mk1 ATV demonstration aircraft laid the groundwork for the start of the next Krampus Mk2 prototype.
