A victory by Iran or the United States will be passed. A win or draw against England will send the Three Lions into the knockout round. The Americans can still get into the group with a win and a loss for England first Walesor England draw and USA win by at least 4 goals.
But there is no transcript view here. Matches take place at the same time.
Here are the most important moments and best matches of the final day of Group B.
pre-match incident
Ignore the off-field controversies that have steadily formed between the two teams throughout this tournament. The stakes of this game — win and you’re in — create a lot of drama on their own, and for a US team that can’t even afford a draw, the mountain they have to climb could be getting worse and worse. steeper as they came out of the tunnel at Al Thumama Stadium.
Let’s start with the selection, because it is not surprising and at the same time leaves you scratching your head. The US starting line-up was mostly unchanged from the first two games, with one exception.
Josh Sargent returned to the starting line-up, despite the ineffective 81-minute interval between matches with Wales and England. haji wright was even less influential in his first game than the Three Lions, so a change at the top is not a surprise, but a return of Sargent – as the coach Gregg Berhalter has consistently chosen Jesus Ferreira throughout this cycle — is a curious choice.
The most jarring decision comes in the back, where Cameron Carter-Vickers poke holes in the center of the defense with Tim Ramat the cost of Walker Zimmerman. Zimmerman admitted the punishment converted by Gareth Bale to help Wales get a draw in the Americans’ league opener, but aside from that, the two-time MLS Best Defender played solidly in the back line that was supposed to be this team’s bright spot in the game. Cata. Carter-Vickers and Ream have never played together, and Celts The central defender has only played for the USMNT 3 times in 2022 (in the Nations League against El Salvador and Grenadaand a friendly vs. Maroc).
Oh, and the crowd inside Al Thumama Stadium certainly supportedIranat least based on the noise emitted when the teams go out to warm up.
There is no room for error for Americans. Has Berhalter succeeded in getting rid of Zimmerman?

Controversy is growing
After an American Soccer League social media account short display of flag of Iran Without the symbol of the Islamic Republic, the Iranian government responded by accusing US Soccer of removing God’s name from its flag, and the Iranian football federation said its country would appeal to FIFA. A report from the Associated Press said Iran was also threatening legal action.
The USSF said in a statement Sunday morning that it had decided to drop the official flag on its social media accounts to show “support for the women in Iran fighting for basic human rights.”
The posts were eventually taken down and the flag’s emblem restored. US Spokesperson Says USSF Still Supports Iran Protesters and US Defenders Walker Zimmerman emphasized that the group focused on Tuesday but still supported women’s rights.
“I think it’s a group focused on the current mission, but at the same time we empathize, and we firmly believe in women’s rights and support them,” Zimmerman said.
