Maserati Ghibli 2023 review, price and specifications
overview
With a powerful twin-turbo powertrain and swoon-worthy styling, the 2023 Maserati Ghibli is a sports sedan with a strong Italian flavor. You also won’t find any squishy four-cylinder here. Ghibli’s entry-level engine is a 345hp twin-turbo V-6 that can be upgraded to 424hp in the mid-range Modena trim. The model that gets ripped the most is the twin-turbo V-8 Trofeo, which makes for a powerful engine 580 hp. The Ghibli’s chassis is tuned for pleasure, with the sharp, balanced handling of a sports car with a ride that’s refined enough to please luxury buyers who might want it. own a luxury car. audi a6 or one Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Unfortunately, that flair doesn’t make its way into the Ghibli’s interior. It has a mix of materials starting with the expected leather, wood and metal trim. But those richer finishes are interspersed with some cheap plastic and a snug fit finish. Even so, the Ghibli’s odd looks and goosebumps are admirable traits.
What’s new for 2023?
While Ghibli doesn’t receive any significant changes for 2023, its starting price certainly does. The base GT model is now $6100 more than last year. The price of the mid-range Modena increased by $7000 and the top-end Trofeo increased by $5900.
Price and which one to buy
If Ghibli’s starting price seems high, that’s because it is. Most midsize luxury sedans start around $55,000 and go up from there. But those rival cars also get a turbocharged four-cylinder for the base engine and then switch to a more powerful V-6 as prices rise. Ghibli omits the four engines and offers a twin-turbo V-6 as standard equipment. We recommend the Modena model because it unlocks 424 ponies and covers more of the Ghibli’s interior with genuine leather seats.
Engine, transmission and performance
The base setup for the Ghibli is a 345hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 with rear-wheel drive; The Modena model increases power to 424 hp. Along with the top-of-the-range Trofeo model comes a 580-horsepower twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive (Q4 in Maserati parlance) is available with the V-6. Both engines have an eight-speed automatic transmission. We tested an S model (replaced by the Modena in 2022) in 2014 and were intrigued by the eerie sound it made. On our test track, it managed a 0 to 60 mph time in 4.7 seconds—fast for 2014, but today it can be surpassed by non-AMG version of the Mercedes-Benz E-class. Since then, Maserati has boosted that V-6 version to 424 hp. When we tested this engine in Maserati Levante SUV, it managed a time of 5.1 seconds, so Lighter Ghibli will be significantly faster. Trofeo model uses V-8 . engine pack an even stronger wall, and we estimate it is capable of running 3.7 seconds to 60 mph. The Ghibli’s on-road demeanor is intimidating, but it maintains a level of refinement that has made it so sought after by some of the best luxury sports sedans available today.
Real-world fuel economy and MPG
Since the Ghibli doesn’t have a four-cylinder base model, its EPA fuel economy rating is worse than that of the mid-size luxury sedan. Rear-wheel drive V-6 models achieve ratings of 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway; Going all-wheel drive drops the city rating to 17 mpg. The V-8-powered Trofeo is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. We haven’t tested the Ghibli on a 75 mph highway, but plan to update this review when the opportunity arises. Furniture, amenities and merchandise
While the exterior exudes Italian style, the cabin is not as luxurious as expected. Some of its interior details are taken from the smaller vehicles in the Stellantis product portfolio. For example, it uses window switches like Jeep Cherokee and light switches and magnetic steering column stubs Chrysler Town & Country is now defunct. However, buyers can opt for the Ghibli with beautifully stitched silk and leather seats, a faux suede ceiling and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. The trunk of the Ghibli is wider than that of the E-class or A6, but BMW 5-series provide a little more space. When a Ghibli visits our office, we’ll see how much carry-on baggage it can hold and update this review.
Infotainment and connectivity
All Ghibli models come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a glossy screen and run a refreshed version of Google’s Android Automotive interface. Navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are all standard. An eight-speaker audio system is also standard, but audiophiles will be pleased to know that Maserati offers two different high-end systems as upgrades. The first is a 10-speaker Harman/Kardon setup, while the second is a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
Safety features and driver assistance
Ghibli is supplied with some driver assistance feature; mostly standard equipment. For more information on Ghibli crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) web pages. Key safety features include:
- Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane departure warning with lane keep assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control
Warranty and maintenance coverage
Most midsize luxury cars from Europe offer a simple four-year/50,000-mile warranty, and the Ghibli follows suit. It would be nice if Maserati offered a free routine maintenance package with the purchase of a new Ghibli, but this policy has been omitted from the vehicle’s standard package. Series 5 and JaguarXF both offer better value in this category.
- Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
- No free periodic maintenance
