Matt said Rachael called him “immediately” about the photos, but he was with her from the start. “I know the woman I would choose to be with. Celebrity gossip, no matter how sensitive, will not be able to shape my opinion of her,” he shared. “Her voice on the other end of the line was strained and unsteady.”
He said he comforted her at this point: “I assure her I know who she is.”
But the couple are in two different states, Matt noted, so he wanted to chat live to discuss the controversial photos.
“I needed to see Rachael’s face for the tough conversation ahead,” he said in his book. “I haven’t been nervous to see Rachael since giving her the last rose. We’ve come a long way, even since then, but our meeting this time was of a solemn nature. It made me feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable.”
Matt explained that the couple had retreated to a home in “Unspoiled Georgia” to keep the conversation away from the public. At the time, Rachael and Matt were not allowed to appear together until their relationship was announced on the show, he said.

Matt said that Rachael “leaned forward and jumped in” to explain her side of the story.
