The Mazda 6 is expected to lose its turbocharged four-cylinder engine by 2023.
Japanese shop Creative Trends reports that a minor update to the mid-size sedan and wagon will hit the Japanese market in December this year.

Aside from the discontinued 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the Mazda 6 is said to be available in two new colors – Rhodium White and Platinum Quartz – but with no other notable changes.
That means it is said to continue to feature the old MZD-Connect infotainment system with an 8.0-inch screen, instead of upgrading to the newer Mazda Connect system and 8.8-inch screen, Its 10.25 or 12.3 inches larger.
We are one of the few markets still offering the turbocharged Mazda 6, along with Japan and New Zealand.
It is not sold in China or Europe, while the entire Mazda 6 line-up has been discontinued in North America by 2022.
It’s one of two engine options on offer here, the other being a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder. The Atmo four produces 140kW of power and 252Nm of torque, with the turbo model lifting those outputs to 170kW and 420Nm.
The Mazda 6 is one of the oldest cars on the Australian market, launched in late 2012 but received a pretty significant facelift in 2018.
Japanese media have reported that a replacement is due, based on the new rear-wheel drive/all-wheel drive Large Architecture that underpins the upcoming car. CX-60The CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 crossovers and offer inline six-cylinder engines.

However, talk of a potential Grand Architecture-based Mazda 6 has subsided in recent months, with the Japanese shop The best car website reported in July that the rumored Mazda 6 replacement would not eventually come as Mazda instead focused on SUVs that seemed more lucrative.
That also raises doubts about a rumored coupe model on the platform.
Like the CX-60, a Mazda 6 on this platform would likely be positioned as a more premium model, moving the midsize sedan from a Toyota Camry compete with more competitors for things like BMW 3 Series.
