The ongoing crisis in Iran – where women fight for their rights against so-called ‘despotic’ regimes – is being discussed around the world, with many celebrities supporting women and men who have demonstrated on the streets and risking his life in the Middle Eastern country.
The turmoil began after the death of Mahsa Amini 22 years oldwho was purposefully apprehended by the country’s ‘ethical police’ and beaten during her incarceration, causing her to fall into a coma and subsequently die.
According to reports, Amini was detained for not wearing clothes hijab properly, it is a domestic punishable offence. When news of her death broke, it led to violent protests that claimed many lives. Since then, many women have thrown their headscarves, burned them and chanted anti-government slogans.
Earlier this week, Meghan Markle was seen standing in solidarity with the brave Iranian women who are being regularly detained. She was photographed wearing a black T-shirt with the words ‘women, life, freedom’ written on it in Farsi.
According to one Independence report, Duchess of Sussex – who currently lives in California with her husband Prince Harry, Duke – wore the t-shirt to the Women @ Spotify event in Los Angeles. The 41-year-old was spotted attending the event along with Archewell president Mandana Dayani and executive vice president of global communications Ashley Momtaheni, both Iranians.
Dayani then took to Instagram to write a lengthy note, outlining how the duchess spoke of the “courage and bravery” that Iranian protesters have shown for weeks now.
“Women. Life. Freedom. Allies have come in many forms over the past month since her death. Mahsa Amini. I am grateful to be working with incredible women like Meghan and my Iranian friend and colleague, Ashley Momtaheni, as we continue to highlight the courage and bravery of women. and young girls on the front lines of one of our most important feminist movements. life,” the caption reads.
Dayani continued, “… Meghan spoke about the revolution led by women and young girls in Iran, the courage and bravery they display every day, as well as the role they play in leadership and support. fundamental human rights: women, life, freedom.”
She added that as an Iranian woman who had “run away from her country in pursuit of these freedoms, [she] Couldn’t be more grateful for the way she chose to advocate for women around the world”, mentioning Meghan.
“A proud day at Archewell, and especially for me and Ashley Momtaheni,” she concluded.
Other Famous People like Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, and Harry Styles have also shown their support for women in Iran. In fact, Jolie has shared several photos of protests where women had their hair cut to stand up against the government.
