Mercedes-Benz unveils its first fully virtual car

The physical world can be too limited, leading to Mercedes-Benz to reveal his latest car exclusively in virtual form.

The brand unveiled its unnamed car during the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, which runs from September 29 to November 5.

This virtual show car is a two-seater coupe with a bulbous design somewhat reminiscent of both recently revealed vehicles. Mercedes-AMG Vision AMG concept and Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR concept from 2020.

It also has a very similar concept look to the Nike One 2022 concept from 2004, introduced in Gran Turismo 4 racing games.

The Mercedes-Benz show car is light blue and transparent in some parts, allowing us to see the workings inside.

The wheels appear to be part of a transparent vehicle-like structure, so it’s unclear how they rotate. They also have vertical headlights in them.

This virtual Mercedes-Benz show car was developed in collaboration with League of Legends Riot Games game developer.

“When designing a virtual and extraordinary showcar, two worlds merge – real car design and animated design,” said Mercedes-Benz design director Gorden Wagener.

“Because of the virtual space, there is no limit to what we can do, which means we can push boundaries and give our creativity space for the unexpected. The result is something unique: the first fully virtual show car from Mercedes Benz. “

It is still unclear how this virtual exhibition car will be deployed in League of Legends video games at this stage.

League of Legendsoften abbreviated as LoL, is a massively multiplayer online battle arena video game widely recognized as one of the world’s largest e-sports.

In the main game mode, there are two teams of five players fighting against each other, with the main objective of destroying the other team’s base. Players can also kill non-player characters for gold and experience points.

Some of the playable characters can drive a vehicle, so there is still a possibility of deployment for this Mercedes-Benz show car in the game.

Mercedes-Benz has a longstanding partnership with Riot Games for the League of Legends World Championship starting in 2020. It has now been extended to 2025.

In 2021, the German automaker designed a ring for the winner of the event. It has also done the same for this year’s champions.

“Since establishing our partnership, it has been inspiring to see how the teams of Riot and Mercedes Benz continue to fearlessly pursue opportunities to enhance and celebrate their sport. me,” said the global head of Riot Games League of Legends e-sports Naz Aletaha.

“Whether in physical form, like our beautiful world championship ring or a virtual electric vehicle, we are delighted that the expansion of our partnership strengthens our collective commitment to in pushing the limits of creativity delivering an exciting experience for LoL Esports fans for years to come.”

This isn’t the first virtual show car Mercedes-Benz has unveiled, but it will be the first to not receive a physical counterpart.

Mercedes-Benz unveils AMG Vision Gran Turismo concept in 2013 for racing simulation video game Gran Turismo 6.
