MG’s first all-electric sports car has been caught testing ahead of its scheduled launch this year.
Spy photos published by Scar and Weibo users EnricGu display MG Cyberster’s sleek bodywork, tight overhangs and fabric roof.
Patent image leaked of the production model appeared as early as 2022, however, it’s worth noting that the spyed example’s front overhang appears shorter in these images and closer to the original concept.

The same report says UK deliveries will begin in 2024 as previously reported – in time for the MG brand’s centenary anniversary.
MG Australia has previously said that bring the electric roadster hereas it will be integrated in the right hand drive.
“We can confirm that we are reviewing the MG Cyberster for the Australian and New Zealand markets in a right-hand drive configuration and are currently exploring different variants and specifications,” said a spokesperson for the company. MG Motor Australia said last August.
According to MG UK commercial director, Guy Pigounakis, it will offer a choice of “very high-performance” single- or dual-motor powertrains. Grade 4.
It remains unclear exactly how it will be priced and positioned within MG’s multi-function lineup.
“Until [first full-scale production prototype from China] arrived [in the UK] we saw it as a natural successor to the MG F. It was not at all. It’s a completely different area of the market,” said Mr. Pigounakis.
While its role as the brand’s sole sports car will create a halo effect, Mr. Pigounakis’ comments indicate that the production Cyberster is likely to be more expensive than expected.
According to recent trademark filings, MG may call it the C EV – a nod to the MG C, based on the old six-cylinder MG B.
Indeed, MG captioned an introductory video with a “return of legend,” pointing to the brand dusting off the old nameplate.
The low-res teaser video, uploaded to MG UK’s social media, gives us a preview of what appears to be a production Cyberster.
While it still has the curvaceous hips and bold Union Jack-style taillights, as well as a similarly aggressive bow, the proportions are completely different from the concept – not that it’s quite production-ready.
Specifications are yet to be revealed, although the concept has a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3 seconds and a range of 800km.
Expect the production version of the MG Cyberster to have slightly more realistic range and performance figures.
MG has not confirmed which platform the vehicle will use, although its new Modular Extensible Platform – the platform MG 4 – seems to be a likely choice.
The small electric hatchback offers a choice of 51kWh and 64kWh batteries, with a range of 350km to 450km on the WLTP cycle.
Entry level version, approved for local sale ahead of launch on first half of 2023generating 125kW of power.
A rear-wheel drive version with another engine is already available overseas and is likely to arrive here, producing 150kW of power.
Finally, the MG Mulan – or MG 4 as it is known in China – is offered with a 330kW/600Nm dual-motor four-wheel drive system.
This Cyberster will essentially have no competition when it launches.
Given MG’s positioning as more of a value-driven brand, the production Cyberster is likely to overtake upcoming electric sports cars like the Lotus Type 135, due in 2026 and A110 ohms The replacement will share its platform, as will the next Tesla Roadster.
Porsche is also preparing to replace electricity for 718 Boxster and Caymanexpected around 2024 or 2025.
While MG has always offered a wide range of sedans and/or hatchbacks, since its founding in the UK in 1924, the demise of the TF convertible in 2011 resulted in one of the longest droughts it has experienced. No sports car.
