Mizoram tourism to strengthen connection with Bairabi-Sairang railway project | Travel
The Northeast is the main focus in all of the Center’s development agendas and Indian Railways are significantly contributing to the transformation of this region through better modes of transport.
Bairabi-Sairang New Line Railway Project to Connect Northeastern State Mizoram to the rest of the country is one such project that is likely to be completed soon.
Sabyasachi De, Director of Public Relations (PRO) of Northeast Border Railway, said that the project, upon completion, will mark the dawn of a new era of communication and commerce, in the East Asian region. North of the country, especially Mizoram.
The Bairabi-Sairang project aims to create an additional 51.38 km railway line in Northeast India. The Bairabi-Sairang New Line Railway Project consists of 55 major bridges requiring approximately 42,000 tons of steel to fabricate, transport and erect.
He said a record 35,000 tons of steel have been made in the past 14 months and about 30,000 tons have been shipped to different work sites. “Transporting fabricated girders to bridge locations through different bridge locations is a very difficult and challenging task being carried out with 24/7 deployment of trailers and heavy machinery to support the sharp turns of narrow hilly roads and pull/push on steeper ramps than these intros,” says De.
He added that the erection of the steel beams was an important activity of the project.
“Despite the cold night, remote areas, the work is still being built 24/24 to speed up the progress. Despite many challenges during the construction process, this project has very few working seasons due to heavy rain. and long, rugged mountainous terrain through deep forest, difficult access conditions, unavailability of construction materials and skilled labor in Mizoram, etc., Northeast Border Railway is making every effort to fulfill the commitment to put the project into operation as soon as possible,” De said.
The NF Railway CPRO also said that, once completed, the tourism and socio-economic development of the state and region will receive a much-needed boost.
“Once operational, the project will prove important in connecting Mizoram with the railway network. People in the area will enjoy long-distance access across the country and the supply of essential goods. Uninterruption can be made for Mizoram to meet people’s needs,” said CPRO Railways NF.
