Montana Love puts Carlos Diaz down three times, stopping him in Round 3
The newest player at 140 pounds hasn’t shown much affection for his opponent.
Montana Love beat Carlos Diaz three times in Round 2 and then stopped the Mexican in Round 3 on Devin Haney-Joseph Diaz Jr. on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Love (17-0-1, 9 KOs) made a breakthrough in the seventh round by former president Ivan Baranchyk in August.
The 26-year-old Cleveland boxer started this bout with one wrong move, nearly 4 pounds short on Friday. However, he was allowed to fight.
Diaz (29-2, 19 KOs), who crossed the 140-pound limit, competed in the first round and in 30 seconds of the second round. Then things went south quickly, as he hit the tarp three times over the next minute and a half.
Love was unable to get the job done in round 2 but referee Raul Caiz Jr had his eye on the possibility of Diaz’s welfare following the knockdowns. That’s obviously why he stopped the fight after just one shot that didn’t seem to do much damage.
The official stoppage time is 1:22 of the 3rd half.
