More detailed Android Auto update, customer rollout underway


Google reveal more details about it Android car and Google integration updated at this year’s CES technology show.

Revealed last May and originally scheduled to launch in the northern summer of 2022, updates to the Android Auto smartphone mirroring app – codenamed Coolwalk – have been delayed.

Google now says it has begun rolling out the update to all users, although this is being done in phases.

While the headline action is a new modular design revealed last year, there have been several other important updates made.

Android Auto will now also support calls made via WhatsApp, although Google says this will initially only be available with the “latest Pixel and Samsung phones.”

The refreshed interface also supports split-screen layouts across all screen types and sizes, allowing you to display on-screen media and navigation information at the same time and save you from switching continuity between applications.

The map segment will appear on the side closest to the driver, while a new quick launcher feature includes shortcuts to recently used apps.

Google Built-In Cars now supports the Tubi and MGM+ streaming apps when you want to watch something as your EV charges, and Google promises YouTube and other apps will be available soon.

Google has also introduced the ability to share BMW Digital Keys between iPhones and Google Pixels, with key sharing coming to Samsung phones soon.
