New record-breaking game awards with viewership 2021
The Game Awards have been breaking their own records year after year, and the 2021 show is no different.
Last year, The Game Awards 2020 broke records with more than 83 million viewers, and this year, the show is estimated to have around 85 million followers in a “global live stream”. Like previous awards shows, this year’s event was streamed live on over 30 digital networks around the world such as YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, etc.
On Twitter, the Game Awards posted a record 1.6 million tweets about the event in 2021, its best ever performance. “The show trended #1 worldwide for the 8th year in a row, leading 11 of the top 30 worldwide trends at the height of the conversation.”
On YouTube, a new watch time record was set with over 1.75 million hours watched on the Game Awards main stream, excluding co-streaming. This is a 14% increase from last year’s program. Compared to last year, fan votes increased 27% to over 23.2 million votes.
“We are grateful that we can return to a live ceremony in 2021 and continue to build on our success with significant international growth in 2021,” said producer and chairperson. Game Awards, Geoff Keighley, said.
