NFL Draft 2022 – One National Title, One Super Bowl Winning QB, and An Impressive Year-round Record Competition for the Georgia Bulldogs
With five picks in the first round, Georgia Bulldogs flex their muscles on the opening night of NFL Drafts – but it’s just the continuation of a string of red-hot days for UGA football.
Just a few months later Atlanta Braves World Series champion, Bulldogs start 2022 by winning the College Rugby Qualifier National Championship in January, concluding 40 seasons title drought. The win also broke a streak of seven losses – including three with hardware on the line – before Alabama Crimson Tide.
“I said to the people in the dressing room, just take this one picture, because I think back to that 1980 championship picture and see all those players and Frank Roses and Herschel Walkers and all of them. who reached out and said stuff,” Head coach Kirby Smart speaks after winning the championship. “Our boys accomplished that, something special, and as they say, they’ve become legends, and I want that for them.”
The following month, the first overall selection of the 2009 draft, Matthew Stafford, becoming the first Georgia quarterback to win a Super Bowl as a starter. In his first year with Los Angeles RamsStafford sealed off .’s team 23-20 win Cincinnati Bengals with the next touchdown pass, 1 yard long for Cooper Kupp the end of the fourth quarter. Defense is over Travon Walker is the number 1 choice overall by Jacksonville Jaguars. Walker is only the second Bulldog to be selected with the first overall pick, joining Stafford, who was chosen by Detroit Lion in 2009.
Walker joins another elite club at the end of the first drafted fourth defense overall in the last 20 years. The previous three parts (Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowney and Mario Williams) have both made at least three Pro Bowls.

Next, tackle the defense Jordan Davis go Philadelphia Eagles with pick number 13. Philly hasn’t drafted DT in the first round since Fletcher Cox in 2012. At 6 foot-6, 340 pounds, Davis’ size and speed give the Eagles’ inward thrusts a big boost. He recorded a time of 4.78 seconds 40 yards in the NFL combined, which is pretty close to the timing of his new quarterback, Jalen Hurts, who ran 4.59 seconds 40 yards at the 2020 combined.
Linebacker Spin Walker and tackle defense Devonte Wyatt go Green Bay Packers Picks No. 22 and 29 respectively. The selections marked the first time a team had selected two players from the same school in the first draft round during the general draft period. The first round ends with Minnesota Vikings choose safe Georgia Lewis Cine.
A total of five selections in the first round set the record for Georgian football and the record for the most players taken from a defense in the first round in the general era. That number falls short of a record for total first-round picks from a single team shared by Miami in 2004 and Alabama in 2021.
