NH Irish Champion crowned at Punchestown
The 2021/2022 Irish National Hunt champions were announced in Punchestown on Saturday. Of the six, five are consecutive winners, with Jack Foley being named Champion Conditional Driver for the first time. Ireland’s NH champions are as follows:
- Champion Owner: JP McManus (19th win)
- Champion Coach: Willie Mullins (16th win)
- Jockey Champion: Paul Townend (5th win)
- Champion Condition: Jack Foley
- Amateur Champion: Patrick Mullins (14th win)
- Champion Lady Amateur Rider: Jody Townend (second place)
Ireland horse racing chief executive, Suzanne Eade, said, “For the first time since May 2019, we have been able to crown the National Hunt champion in front of the racing crowd and my congratulations. to JP, Willie, Paul, Jody, Jack, Patrick and the thousands of people around the country who worked to make the season a success.
“The great achievements of so many in our industry show Ireland’s racing in the best possible light and the high wins in the world’s biggest races is reflected in the amazing crowds we see. I saw here this week and at the Fairyhouse during Easter. It will enhance well for the upcoming summer and I wish all the participants the best of luck as the new season begins at Down Royal on Monday. ”
