Oregon Ducks’ No 3 CFP hopes fade after crushing defeat to Utah
No.3 OregonThe quest to reach the College Football Finals for the first time since 2014 dealt a huge blow on Saturday after the Ducks were overwhelmed by the hosts. Utah in one Route 38-7.
Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said: “Everybody is as sad and frustrated as we should be. “It’s going to burn. It’s going to get hurt very badly. The boys are competitors, and that’s also tough because we’ve prided ourselves on being resilient and being able to overcome adversity. And night Now, we haven’t done enough good work.”
Oregon has fallen behind and played in its closest matches throughout the season but always found a way to respond – even when losing in extra time. Stanford, in which Ducks lead by 10 at halftime. Against Utah, there is no such thing.
They tackled for two missed first-half goals before going 21-0 down then giving up the 78-yard return touchdown by UK Covey when the time runs out in the first half. At that point, it was clear that Duck had not returned.
“The best way to say that the responsibility is entirely mine. Every head coach should always do that,” Cristobal said. “On the other side, there’s a lot to play – a lot. Most of our goals are still ahead. And we have to quickly prepare for them by getting back to work and they won’t. fix. themselves, but certainly not the standard tonight.”
“It hurts,” Cristobal added. “It needs to hurt and people should use that hurt as the right kind of motivation. We should be really motivated to play this week because we have a lot of games and at the time they’re playing. I wake up in the morning, this everything must be behind us and we must move forward.”
Cristobal announces that wide receiver Johnny Johnson III (25 catches, 311 yards) and Jaylon Redd (13 catches, 197 yards) will miss the rest of the season through injury. The news comes after Mycah Pittman’s announcement this week that he has left the team and is set to make a move. All three players are among the top five leaders to receive the team’s highest award.
Victory went to the Pac-12 South for Utah and coach Kyle Whittingham, who became the Utes’ all-time winning leader (142) with the win.
Coupled with Oregon State‘NS Win 24-10 end State of Arizona on Saturday, the Ducks now need to beat the Beavers in their head-to-head game next week to set up a rematch against Utah in the Pac-12 title game in Las Vegas on Dec.
Both the State of Oregon and Washington state can also reach the title game Pac-12. The Beavers will advance to the title game with a win over Oregon and a loss to Washington State first Washington in the Apple Cup. Washington State will advance if it beats Washington and Oregon State beats Oregon.
Utah overcame the Ducks 386-294 and converted 11 of 14 chances down to third. Utes dominated the script line and limited Oregon to 63 yards, while setting the tone with 208 yards.
