Ouija Board (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}), the outstanding horse racing game and dam of the winner of the Australian Derby (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), has died aged 21.

Confirming the Classic double winner had passed away on Tuesday, her breeder Lord Derby said, “In our wildest dreams we never imagined we could. Breeding a horse that will break global records and inspire so many people with so many happy memories. She is simply the best and always has the best temperament. She likes a hug and a mint polo every time we walk around the school. We are so lucky to have her in our lives because she has brought us so much joy. The joy and joy she brought us on our four-year journey around the world will leave us with happy memories forever.”

Coached by Ed Dunlop, Ouija Board won the Oaks and Irish Oaks and ended his Classics season with a win at the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. At the age of four, she added the Hong Kong Vase to her group 1 and then continued training at the age of five to win G1 Prince of Wales’s S. and G1 Nassau S. before repeating the success at Breeders ‘Cup.

The retired home of her owners Stanley House Stud in Newmarket, Ouija Board produced five winners, led by Australia, who now stands at Coolmore in Ireland, while the other half-brother His mother, Group 2 winner and Group 1 runner-up Frontiersman (GB) ( Dubawi {Ire}) is at Overbury Stud in England. Another son, Voodoo Prince (GB) (Kingmambo) won a Group 3 in Australia.

Farm manager Peter Stanley, brother of Lord Derby, said, “It has been a privilege to be associated with such an extraordinary and remarkable dog. Even in one’s wildest dreams, one wouldn’t dare dream of something as filthy as an Ouija board. She dances every dance and more besides. Her student career was equally inspiring, the same year creating the Derby winner against Australia, and the Melbourne Cup favourite. She continued this with Frontiersman runner-up in Group 1 of the Crowning Cup. If I have one sadness, it’s that she left us an only daughter, but the truth is she was a joy from start to finish.”

Ed Dunlop added, “She is a true champion. I am so lucky to be entrusted with such a wonderful horse. There are so many happy and wonderful moments with her that it is impossible to choose one. Winning the Oaks is very special to me as a coach, and the iconic Nassau battle will live long in memory. Simply put, she changed my life and I owe her a very, very big debt.”
