Overwatch 2’s main hero designer leaves Blizzard

Overwatch 2 Designer Geoff Goodman has left Activision Blizzard.

Based on PC GamersGoodman is the main hero designer behind many of Overwatch’s most popular characters, but “decided to leave Blizzard earlier this year.”

“We thank Geoff for his years of service at Blizzard and wish him all the best,” the company said in a statement to PC Gamer. “His ability to enliven Overwatch’s diverse roster of heroes through gameplay is astounding, and the mark he left on Warcraft and Overwatch teams will be felt for years to come.”

Goodman’s involvement with Overwatch back to the beginning. He was back on the ship when it was Blizzard’s Project Titan – an MMO that has finally been turned into Overwatch we know today.

When it comes to Overwatch, he helped remake Doomfist and Orisa as well as design new heroes, Sojourn and Junker Queen. He might as well have helped with the design a lot Hero in the upcoming sequelOverwatch 2.

No reason has been given for Goodman’s departure, but his departure comes after several famous exits following Blizzard’s harassment and discrimination lawsuit. With the company shake-ups already happening, this is bound to come as a shock.

Especially since Overwatch 2 is less than a month from its launch on October 4, 2022.

Of course, much of Goodman’s work on the sequel will already be done, with the hero designs for Overwatch newbies already done. But as a direct-serve game, it will need many new heroes in the months and years to come… and losing Goodman isn’t ideal.

When it comes to heroes in Overwatch 2, the new battle pass system sees new heroes added to the game’s battle card – unlockable at level 50 for free.

“While each hero in Overwatch 2 will have their own distinct strengths and weaknesses, and some heroes will be more effective against others, we believe our game plays better and is more enjoyable. more taste with less difficulty score and more effective hero selection,” said Blizzard in a statement.

Whether this works or not, remains to be seen. But it looks like Blizzard will soon need to find a new lead hero designer.
