Pablo Mari faces three months after surviving a knife attack

Monza defender Pablo Mari faced three months of injury after non-life threatening injury in a knife attack at a shopping mall in Italy.

Mari, who is lending the word Arsenalsurvived Thursday’s attack, in part due to his excellent physique as an elite athlete, said the surgeon who operated on his injured back.

“The surgery was relatively simple. Fortunately only two muscles were injured,” said Osvaldo Chiara, director of the general surgery and trauma team at the Niguarda hospital in Milan.

“[Mari’s] muscle mass to such an extent that the length of the knife used could not penetrate his rib cage and pierce his lungs. “

Monza said Mari should spend “two or three more days” recovering at the hospital and will likely need two months of rest before resuming physical activity, with another month before he can play again. .

Galliani said the whole team was “shocked” and had asked Serie A to postpone their next match, against Bologna in Monday. But the tournament did not change the schedule.

Marí, 29, calls herself “lucky” to have survived injuries to her back and mouth.

Five people were stabbed in the attack and one was killed after a man grabbed a knife from a supermarket shelf, authorities said.

Police have arrested a 46-year-old Italian man suspected in the attack at a shopping mall in Assago, on the outskirts of Milan.

“He told me he had ‘suerte’ [luck]because, ‘I witnessed another person die today,’ Galliani said after visiting Mari at the hospital late on Thursday.

“He had a baby in a stroller and his wife by his side… He was probably saved by his height,” Galliani said of the 6-foot-4 Mari. “He was hit in the back and then he saw this thug stab someone in the throat.”

Massimo Tarantino, a former football player for Naples and Inter Milanwas involved in stopping the attacker.

Galliani said Mari was also wounded in the mouth, possibly from grinding her teeth during the attack.

“He had two stitches on his lip and a wound on his back, which fortunately didn’t affect any organs,” Galliani said, adding that Mari remained “clearly.”

Mari has made eight appearances for Monza in Serie A this season and scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Spezia this month. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Udineseanother Italian club.

Monza, the team owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, are making their Serie A debut this season.

“Pablo was a great kid,” Galliani said. “He has the strength to joke, telling me he will be playing on Monday. I have sent well wishes to him from the president Berlusconi and all his teammates.”
