Passenger car wholesale down 19% in November amid chip shortages: Industry body SIAM
Automotive industry body SIAM said that wholesale passenger car sales in the country fell 19 units in November as semiconductor shortages continued to affect vehicle production and subsequent deliveries. for agency partners.
Passenger car (PV) shipments last month were 2,15,626 units, down 19% from 2,64,898 units in November 2020.
Similarly, total two-wheeler sales plummeted 34% to 10,50,616 units last month from 16,00,379 units in the same period last year.
Total three-wheeler sales stood at 22,471 units, down 7% from 24,071 units in November 2020. Total auto sales across categories fell to 12,88,759 units last month from 18,89,348 units in the same period last year.
“The industry continues to face difficulties due to the global semiconductor shortage. In the festive season, the industry hopes to make up for the loss, but sales for November 2021, lowest in seven years for passenger vehicles, lowest in 11 years for two-wheelers and lowest in 19 years for three-wheelers”, said General Manager of Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Rajesh Menon said in a statement.
Amid the growing threat of Omicron, the new variant of Covid, the industry is actively ensuring employee safety and monitoring any supply chain malfunctions, he added.
