Patria upgrade fleet of Finnish XA-180 armored vehicles
The Finnish state-controlled Patria Corporation reports that it has completed the upgrade of a fleet of the country’s XA-180 armored vehicles.
Patria said in a statement that it has completed the XA-180 Armored Mid-Life Upgrade project as the final vehicles have now been delivered to the Finnish Army. The mid-life upgrade agreement (MLU) of the XA-180 armored personnel carrier was signed by Patria and the Finnish Self-Defense Forces in 2013.
The “XA series”, also known as the “Pasi” vehicle, the modernization project is an important project for Patria and the life cycle of the vehicle has been secured until the 2040s. By that time, mechanical capability is expected. The engine of the XA-180 will be replaced by the new Patria 6×6. Patria appreciates the flexible cooperation with the Finnish Self-Defense Forces and many other cooperation partners. In Finland, the total project employment effect is more than 450 person-years,” commented Tommi Svensk, head of the Military Business Area of Patria’s Finnish Division.

During the project, all vehicles of the XA series were modernized and synchronized. Modifications made include new electrical systems and communications equipment, as well as an updated crew space with improved seating solutions. In addition, critical components such as the engine, drivetrain and shaft are also inspected and repaired or replaced if necessary.
