Pizza Bianca Punches Royal Ascot Ticket on Hilltop

Bobby Flay Pizza Bianca, GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies heroine last term, won tickets to Royal Ascot in style here.

In an impressive 2021 campaign, Pizza Bianca overtook its maidenhood on the Saratoga lawn when it launched on July 22 in Saratoga and jumped right into the Grade I company, coming in second behind Wild Beauty (Frankel {GB}) in Woodbine’s GI Natalma S. competition on September 19. That earned her a spot at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies in Del Mar, where she won halfway with score 9-1. Pizza Bianca returned from the bench to place second, beaten only by 3/4 length, as the 4-5th favorite character in Memories of Silver S. at the Aqueduct April 24.

Confidently supported with a 2-5 score here, she raced in sixth place behind driver Murph (Malibu Moon) through an opening round with a score of 23.31. With patience and still a lot of work to do as she entered the long turn, she began to move along inward, then back out as the yard turned home. She was released during the stretch and rolled on her head to win the opening match.

“[Jockey] Jose [Ortiz] Flay said. “She broke; he has put her to sleep around the track; ask her a little; and she performed very well. It’s really a sigh of relief, but it’s also just a beautiful performance.”

G1 The crowning of S. at Royal Ascot will be next.

“I ran in that race in 2011 with More Than Real,” Flay said. “She didn’t run well, but it didn’t matter. It was a wonderful experience. For me, this is what this is all about. These horses can take you to the experiences of a lifetime. ”

On behalf of Flay, blood dealer James Delahooke collected 1.25 million guineas ($2,122,050) for Pizza Bianca’s White Hot dish at the 2014 Tattersalls Sale in October. Pizza Bianca was the first pony. first for her boneless dam.
