Pletcher Breezes Cigar Mile Duo

Rising star TDN‘The back sea (Runhappy) and progress Americanrevolution (structure) worked a half-mile in the company at: 49.21 on the Belmont training track Saturday morning, with both 3-year-old ponies heading for the GI Cigar Mile next Saturday, presented by NYRA Bets.

Spendthrift Farm’s following Sea, GII Vosburgh S.’s two-back winner, overtakes a third-place attempt against Aloha West (Spin hard) and Dr. Schivel (Violence) in the GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint, while Americanrevolution rallied last time in the Empire Classic October 30, beating its New York-breeding elders 11 3/4 length on the sloppy Belmont main track .

“Both went well,” said coach Todd Pletcher, a four-time Cigar Mile winner. “It was a breeze for both with a solid gallop. They both seem happy and healthy, knocking wood”.

Seven 3-year-olds have won the Cigar Mile, including Maximum security in 2019.

In other Cigar Mile news, Ginobili (Munnings), second after ‘Rising star TDN’ Life Is Good (Into Mischief) in the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, adjusted for Saturday’s race with a five-round drill at the San Luis Rey base by coach Richard Baltas at: 59.60 a.m. Friday.

“It’s a brilliant piece of work,” Baltas said Friday night. “He galloped in 1:12 and 1 and came out in 1:26 and galloped. I’m really pleased with the way he works. He was more relaxed than usual.”
