Pokémon Go Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke Community Day Guide
Pokémon go There’s a Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke Community Day event on March 18 from 2-5pm your local time.
As expected with a Community Day event, Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke will spawn in large numbers with a high chance to appear shiny. There are also some other bonuses and perks we’ve listed below.
How do I catch a shiny Slowpoke?
According to research conducted by the Pokémon community site The Silph RoadThe odds of shiny on Community Day are around 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing over the three-hour period, you’ll find quite a few shiny Pokémon.
If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop a Smellthen quickly touch each slowpoke to check the shiny ones, run from any non-shiny ones. Notably, any slowpoke you’ve touched will face where your player is standing, so that should help determine what you might have tested.
What moves did Slowpoke’s evolution learn on Community Day?
If you evolve (Galarian) Slowpoke into (Galarian) Slowbro or (Galarian) Slowking from 2pm to 10pm your local time, it will learn the charged Surf move.
Notably, from 2-10pm, the requirement you have to catch 30 Poison-type Pokémon to evolve the Galarian Slowpoke will be changed to 30 Spirit-type Pokémon, so take advantage of that.
If you miss evolving it this time around, you may be able to evolve it during the December Community Day weekend event to get Surf. If you don’t want to wait, you can use a elite TM to get moving.
How do slowbro and slowking work in the meta?
If you’re looking for a powerful Slowpoke to Mega Evolve, don’t bother. Mega Slowbro isn’t great and is outmatched in raids by tons of other water and psychic Pokémon.
The Silph Road subreddit analyst Trummler12 note that the benefit the Slow family will see in PvP from Surfing is minimal. They don’t play well in PvP and likely will always be.
How to make the most of Slowpoke Community Day?
The following rewards will be active during Slowpoke Community Day:
- Triple XP to catch Pokémon
- Double candy to catch Pokémon
- Doubles chance for trainers level 31 and above to get XL candy when catching Pokémon
- Perfume lasts three hours
- Three-hour attraction module
- Slowpoke photobomb special when taking snapshots
- Add a special deal
- Stardust costs halved for transactions
That said, you should definitely crack a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to get some powerful Slowpokes.
If you can super evolution Alakazam, Slowbro, Gardevoir, Medicham, Latios or Latias, you will score more Slowpoke Candy each time you catch. If you Mega Evolve a water-type Pokémon, you will get the slowpoke’s bounty catch, but not the Galarian Slowpoke, so we recommend using the psychic type.
In addition to all of this, Niantic is still doing special four-star raids from 5-10pm where if you complete the Slowpoke raid they will spawn within a 300 meter radius around the room exercise for 30 minutes. These attacks cannot be performed remotely. If the usual 2-5pm spawn boost doesn’t give you the slowpoke you want, you can try raiding for another chance.
