Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Punish Dirty Normal Players
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has a school theme in almost every way, including the Pokémon League challenge. Except there’s a curve when you collect all the badges: You have to pass a job interview. I passed by answering cautiously, but a lot of other players are failing the test for the most ridiculous reason imaginable: They answered honestly.
Once you’ve defeated eight gym leaders and earned their badges, you’ll be allowed to challenge the Pokémon League. All very standard stuff from the beginning of the series. Sometimes they’ll throw you a couple of curved balls, such as letting you challenge the Elite Four in any order in Sun and Moon. Or you will meet a few more opponents in Sword and Shield. But in scarlet and Violet, you have to answer some interview questions before you can fight. Sounds simple right? Wrong.
Players report that they can Failure the Pokémon League experiment by telling Elite Four member Rika that they’re taking on the challenge for fun. Have fun fighting Pokémon? How dare to friend. Obviously, you don’t deserve those shiny gym badges. There are a lot of coaches out there who wish they could be in your position, and you dare take fighting lightly? This situation would be funny if answering “wrong” didn’t prevent you from taking part in the Alliance challenge.
One player Compare the interview to the stress of real-life job interviews. Again shown that the game encourages players to lie about their motives. I think the bigger problem is that games with multiple answers usually don’t penalize you for choosing between multiple valid answers. You might think that “Just for fun, I guess…” is a perfectly valid answer, just to be said. FUN IS NOT ALLOWED. Personally, I don’t think Rika should make money from her hobby.

I know more than that. Unlike Rika, I’m a cheerful person. I will never combine my personal hobby with the work I do for a living… ha… ha.
