Priyanka Gandhi dragged by police as Congress leaders detained in Delhi
New Delhi:
Police arrested Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders from outside the party headquarters in Delhi today as they protested against unemployment and rising prices.
Dressed in black like the other party leaders as a sign of protest, she had previously climbed over barricades to reach where she held a brief sit-in before being taken away by police.
Her brother, Congressman Rahul Gandhi, was also detained before she was briefly detained. Leaders are restricted to a hall in Camp Kingsway in GTB Nagar.
Before starting a planned march to Rashtrapati Bhavan and a “gherao” of the Prime Minister’s house, MPs led by party chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi dressed in black to Parliament. The proceedings were adjourned as members of Congress created an uproar over allegations of abuse of investigative agencies and the government “ignoring people’s problems”.
A statement from the party said its Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members would hold a “Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan” march from Parliament. Congressional Affairs Committee (CWC) members and other senior leaders planned to join the “PM House gherao”.
However, police have cordoned off key areas to disallow the plan for security reasons. Authorities issued bans, banning mass gatherings in parts of Delhi ahead of the Parliament march. Citing these restrictions, the police refused to allow the protest.

“What India built with bricks, starting almost a century ago, is being destroyed right before your eyes. Anyone who resists the idea of starting this dictatorship is attacked, jailed, and jailed. , arrested and brutally beaten,” he said.
The BJP hit back with a jibe, asking if there is democracy in Congress, calling it a “dynastic” party.
