PUBG: Battlegrounds has grown by 80,000 players every day since its free release
After PUBG: Battlegrounds was officially released for free on January 12, 2022, parent company Krafton revealed that it has consistently seen “a steady stream of new users of more than 80,000 per day”.
The figures are detailed in Krafton’s preliminary earnings announcement for the first half of 2022, where it also shared that “average revenue per user (ARPU) across all platforms grew by more than 20% quarter-on-quarter”. It also notes that international markets outside of Korea accounted for 94% of PUBG’s revenue in Q2 2022.
PUBG Mobile has also performed well for Krafton, as it now ranks second in terms of sales among mobile games globally and helped boost the company’s mobile business revenue to $550.7 million.
The earnings announcement also discusses some of Krafton’s upcoming games, including Unknown World’s new IP, set in “an imaginative turn-based sci-fi world.” Prominent Distance Studios Callisto Protocol, and a currently untitled game project based on the Korean fantasy novel, The Bird That Drinks Tears.
In ours review of the free to play version of PUBG: Battlegrounds, we say that “the unique focus on large areas and realistic simulation is still very exciting, even if its novelty was lost years ago.”
