Her mission is to be invincible with an organization led by Nova NordiskIs called “It’s bigger than me.” This is about changing the stigma and shame of being an oversized person.

Why now? Why through an organization? This is a sensitive, culturally and nuanced conversation, to be honest…

Oftentimes, when we see celebrities oversized, we immediately identify and can project thoughts or feelings about our bodies onto them. So when they make changes, declarationor rejecting themselves or the community- that can feel extremely personal.

For someone who has identified himself as “Only thick,” Queen Latifah reflects on her journey via Red Table Talk, sharing revelations about who she is, what she was like, and that journey.

Under scrutiny, Queen Latifah reflected on her career, and when Willow asked about it, Queen Latifah laughed in response. “I have been under scrutiny my entire career. I just walked out the door looking different.”

During her time on Single, she talked about the first time she was asked about her weight, “The saying that we need to lose weight…” She pushed back and retorted, “We are the #1 program in Black and Latino households. Maybe you are the one with the problem! ”

She continued, “Maybe you’re the one with the problem, because the show was a hit, but you’re telling us we need to lose weight!”

The conversation turned to ideals of beauty and conformity. Queen Latifah adds, “We also teach these ideas of beauty, this is what you’re supposed to look like, but when you have these pictures painted for you and it’s been implanted over generations- THAT’S the problem. .”

For someone who always kills the red carpet, it’s great that she shares her challenges in finding fashion choices. “I had to find a way to find clothes that would fit me, in my size, in this world where designers don’t make fashion labels in these sizes. If I’m a size 24 and I have style, I still want to rock what a size 2 is wearing. ”

What helped her journey? She acknowledges that Lizzo and her contributions to the body image conversation have impacted her, “She created a language around this that, unlike any other I’ve heard, revolves around body type.”
