Raiders’ Josh McDaniels supports Davante Adams after the crash
LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels speaks out in favor of widespread adoption Davante Adams on Tuesday afternoon, hours after a police report was made of Adams knocking a man down at the end of the Raid’s 30-29 loss at Chief of Kansas City on my way to the dressing room on Monday night.
And although ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Adams is facing discipline from the NFL, McDaniels said he still doesn’t know “what may or may not come” from the league.
“I support Davante wholeheartedly as a human being,” McDaniels said. “As a human being, he’s a great guy. I know it’s an unfortunate situation. We obviously don’t want any of our guys to do anything like that. He knows it. He’s very well aware of that, but I know one person; I don’t think there’s any intention behind it, on his part.
“But whatever [the NFL] our request, whatever they need from us, we will obviously comply. But we are waiting and watching [situation] at this time.”
The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department released a statement Tuesday morning detailing the situation. This man is a freelancer for ESPN’s Monday Night Football channel.
“The victim was a photographer in the game Chiefs / Raiders. At the end of the game, he was pushed to the ground causing injury. He arranged his personal vehicle to the hospital for treatment, at which time he we have called the police of the applicable city or state to determine any applicable allegation.”
The report said the investigation is expected to last “one to two days longer.”
At his locker after the game, Adams apologized for pushing the man down.
“I wanted to apologize to him, there was a certain guy running off the field, and he was running, like jumping in front of me to get off the field, and I bumped into him, slightly pushed him, and he I’m done,” Adams said at the time. “So I wanted to say sorry to him because it was just frustration mixed in with him literally when he ran in front of me. I shouldn’t have responded like that, but it was the way it was. I reacted initially. So I want to apologize to him for that.”
There is no timetable for the decision from the NFL, a source told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington. With the Raiders (1-4) on a bye week, the league knows it doesn’t need to be as urgent as usual.
