I’ve seen it 10 reminders for year-end self-reflection and thought it would be fun to reply to them in real time on this post. David and I have Family status have planned date night for tonight or tomorrow night, and I’m planning on incorporating some of these questions into the conversation as well.
I invite you to do these things for yourself! I’m not sure about some of these questions, but giving yourself time to learn and explore them is a useful practice before setting some new year goals.
How was it initially?
Thank goodness I have a blog because I honestly don’t remember. Browsing through the archives, I can see that I have booked new year intentions. Ironically, a lot of them are similar to the goals I’ve had in mind lately for 2022. This tells me it’s seasonal momentum I feel and this year I need to create those goals. more specific, measurable goals to see if I’ve actually made progress.
We celebrate David turning 40. A few years ago we had other ideas on how we would celebrate that milestone, but one evening at our favorite place, The Grove Park Inn (and surprised visitors) made it so special!
I focus on trying to create some more useful and refreshing content, like Tips for a more successful reading experience, which coincided with my new website redesign (it was a big project but worth it, as many of you have said now it’s easier to navigate – with a “go to latest post” button). We went skiing in the Deer . Valley, which we decided to do again this year, but just looking through an ordinary day, I’m glad I did date in my post life with 9 years old and 6 years old.
What works well and what doesn’t?
What worked well… the move back to mostly conversational/magazine style posts in late 2021 worked well. I love writing these posts and by page views, you enjoy reading them.
Other things that work well: Join a partnership program at a school closer to home. Meal planning. Investment for short-term rental.
What did not? I’m so hooked on social media. I meant to set boundaries but I didn’t, resulting in me spending too much time and mental energy on my phone and away from my kids.
What are the most important conversations and connections?
They mainly occur within the four walls of my house. Kids are at an exciting age to explore real life concepts like investing (starting capital for a lemonade stand), giving back (Feed NC is their growing focus). me) and learn to be bolder in thinking for themselves (allowing them to take the lead in some decision-making).
What is the best entertainment?
Weird Tiktok. It’s a happier vibe than a lot of other social media (but maybe that just means I need to get rid of my feed) and funny dance moves and videos Things have provided me with hours of entertainment. Fortunately, I realized it was cumulative hour, so I’ve been going cold turkey on Tiktok for the past few weeks. Not sure I will reopen. Maybe I should be more restrained than abstinent.
Who is important?
My family. My friends. Friend. Writing diary-style articles has helped me feel more connected to you. The replies and messages I receive make it feel more like a conversation and I’m grateful for that.
What has changed?
Personally, I feel like I’m still healing from the loss of my dad. Celebration of serving his life both pain and healing. Since then, I feel like I’ve been able to move on, even though not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.
At a more surface level, we have a puppy! It’s been a huge correction, but we’re probably starting to stabilize.
About the blog, I already mentioned it, but it’s a return to my original roots and writing style. I hope to find a way to combine useful content with the style of journaling.
Where did you find happiness and fulfillment?
Travel. We’ve had some truly incredible rides in 2021. We Deer Valley skiing, spent a family girls weekend in Asheville, had one Wild River Rafting Adventures in Utah, almost fell into a bowl at Arches . National Park, Go ATVing in West Virginia, loaded onto the car for an epic cross-country trip with an emphasis on Custer State Park, stay Lone Mountain Farm in Montana, explore Yellowstone, spend time in Grand Teton and Jacksonand finally walking on the beach in Wilmington N.C. Traveling brings all the challenges that I have witnessed with my own eyes that made not only me grow but also the kids. It provides moments of awe, strengthens connections, and expands horizons.
What did you learn?
I have learned to be more compassionate towards other people’s points of view and to listen to understand, while allowing myself to voice my own opinions.
I’ve also learned how when I feel overwhelmed by not being able to help in a certain situation, a seemingly smaller local donation can feel big.
On a more superficial level, I learned how to knit while knitting.
What is actually ending?
I’ve been searching and not finding much for this one.
You want more of what?
Real life is living. Travel, game night, laughter, time outside, connection, authenticity, travel, learning, attraction.
