Red Bull and Alpine summoned by managers after Haas protest
AUSTIN, Texas – Red Bull and Alpine were summoned to meet with managers after Haas filed a protest over them following the US Grand Prix.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Alpine’s Fernando Alonso drove with cars damaged during the race and debris falling apart.
Perez lost his front wing shield four laps after an early collision with Valtteri Bottas.
Alonso’s right wing mirror fell from his car 26 laps after a massive collision with Lance Stroll sent his car flying. Alonso’s car other damage in that incident was repaired, but the mirror was not.
The FIA has a black and orange flag for similar incidents, which indicates a driver must find a way to repair a damaged vehicle.
Haas driver Kevin Magnussen has flown the flag three times this season, in Canada, Hungary and Singapore.
On all three occasions, Haas felt the penalty was overblown and the subsequent pit stop ruined his race.
Haas protested to Perez and Alonso after the race.
On Sunday night, the FIA deemed both protests acceptable and summoned representatives from both teams to meet the manager, meaning prosecution penalties could be imposed.
Perez finished fourth in the race, while Alonso finished seventh.
